The Role:
This position is responsible for supporting and facilitating the summer camps run by the Lethbridge Therapeutic Riding Association (LTRA) throughout July and August, as well as providing assistance to the farm team and other program needs. The role encompasses a range of responsibilities from camp facilitation, supervision of off-horse activities, and logistical support for the farm operations.
Reporting:
The Summer Camp Counsellor and Farm Support position reports to the People & Program Coordinator. During the direct riding instructions, the position will report to the Horseback Riding Coach.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
Camp & Farm Related:
Engage with camp participants in a welcoming, supportive, and professional manner.
Assist in the execution and management of the summer camps activities, with a focus on development of fun & engaging off-horse activities.
Provide logistical support for the coach during horseback riding sessions.
Support the farm team in maintaining the stables, caring for the horses, and managing supplies.
Ensure camp safety and adherence to rules by all participants.
Client Services:
Act as a representative of the LTRA values, promoting a culture of respect, open communication, and commitment to the success of the camp participants and team.
Coordinate and communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding camp activities and schedules.
Other duties
Support other programs and activities as directed by the Program & People Coordinator or Executive Director.
Job Requirements:
This position is funded by the ‘Canada Summer Job’ program intended to provide opportunities to youth. Therefore, all applicants must be under 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period and must meet the eligibility requirements of this funding.
Experience working with children & youth in a camp, educational, or recreational setting is strongly preferred.
A clear criminal record check (with vulnerable sectors) is required.
Basic knowledge of farm operations and horse care would be beneficial but not required.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Able to work effectively with diverse groups of people.
Commitment to the mission, vision, and goals of the LTRA.
Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
Current First Aid and CPR certification an asset.
Comfortable working primarily outdoors in various weather conditions.
Terms:
This is a summer contract position from June 26th to August 31st/2024
35 Hour Per week. All scheduled shifts will occur during normal business hours:
o Monday-Fridays between 8:00am-5:00pm
The rate of pay is $18.50 per hour.
